We just wrapped our inaugural Thursday Think Tank — and I have to say, it set the bar high. 🙌

Strategy eXecution Forum: Thursday Think Tank Meeting

10 Key Principles to Master Strategy Execution - April 2nd 2026

This Thursday Think Tank session was focused on the 10 Key Principles of Strategy Execution — the foundation of the StrateX Playbook. And if we are going to build a truly community-driven playbook, it starts right here: with practitioners being genuinely bought into the principles that organizations must achieve to master strategy execution.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined. Your experience, honesty, and willingness to challenge the thinking is exactly what The Strategy eXecution Forum was built for.

Thursday Think Tank:10 Principles to master Strategy Execution

This Thursday Think Tanks session was focused on the 10 Principles to master Strategy Execution — the foundation of the StrateX Playbook. And if we are going to build a truly community-driven playbook, it starts right here: with practitioners being genuinely bought into the principles that organizations must achieve to master strategy execution.

Here's a flavour of what we got into:

  • Principle 1 — Establish the Foundation. We challenged the language of "Lean Governance" head-on. The community agreed that both "lean" and "governance" carry baggage — and that what we're really talking about is establishing an operating model and a dedicated function that serves as the architect of strategy execution across the organization. Not a bureaucratic PMO. Not an army of consultants. A high-authority, embedded team that personalizes the model to the organization.

  • Principle 2 — Translate and Communicate Strategic Direction. There was strong consensus that our role is not to define strategy — it's to translate it. To take strategic intent and systematically decompose, measure, and communicate it across every level of the organization. The word "define" is coming out. "Translate" is going in.

  • Principle 3 — Map and Optimize Your Organizational Blueprint. "Map" alone doesn't cut it. The real work is the redesign — optimizing the operating fabric of the business so it is genuinely aligned to deliver on strategy. We also had a rich debate on run the business vs. change the business, and where each lives across the principles.

  • A new principle — Initiation & Demand Management. The community identified a gap. We don't currently have a principle that explicitly covers how strategic initiatives are generated, business cases built, and demand managed into the portfolio. That's changing. Watch this space.

  • Structure debate. Should we merge the two people-focused principles (Deploy People Strategically and Navigate the Human Dimension) into one? Should we stay at 10, go to 8, or allow it to breathe to 12? The conversation was lively — and we landed on a clear direction to take into next week.

We ran out of time before getting through all 10 Principles — which tells you everything about the quality of the discussion. We'll pick up where we left off at Thursday Think Tank #2 on April 9, 2026.

If you couldn't make it, I encourage you to watch the recording and review the full meeting recap — every point, every recommendation, and every contributor is captured in there. Links below. 👇
