🕵️ The Strategy Detective 🔍- Strategy Not Clearly Documented

New job title nobody asked for: Strategy Detective.Â
Not on the org chart. Not in the budget. Just a mug on someone's desk that says it, because at some point tracking down the actual strategy became a full investigation, complete with a corkboard, red string, and a sticky note that just says "???" pinned dead center like it's the prime suspect.

Here's the thing, nobody actually lost the strategy. It's all technically there. Forty PowerPoint slides have it. The board deck has it. A CEO email from last May has it too, buried under the subject line "RE: RE: RE: Strategy," ending with "let's discuss offline," a discussion that, as far as anyone can tell, never happened. Every fragment sounds directional. None of it adds up to one thing a function could actually decompose into real objectives, which is exactly how a magnifying glass ends up being a more useful tool than the strategy document itself.
That's the exact challenge behind Principle 3 of the 10 Key Principles of Strategy Execution, Translate and Communicate Strategic Direction.Â
For strategy to cascade meaningfully through an organization, it has to exist as a single, coherent, authoritative articulation, not evidence scattered across a dozen file locations waiting for someone with a badge and a theory. If leaders have to dig for it, it was never really documented. It was just mentioned in enough places to feel like it was.
The 10 Key Principles aren't something we came up with on our own. They're being defined in the open by the StrategyXF community, multi-disciplinary leaders and practitioners from Strategy, Operations, Finance, HR, Architecture, Transformation, PMO, Delivery, and Change Management, coming together to name the real challenges holding organizations back from mastering Strategy Execution, and to share what's actually worked. This scene came directly from that conversation.
Where has your organization's strategy lived, scattered across slides, decks, and one email nobody saved, before someone finally pulled it together into something real? 👇Â
StrategyXF Painfully Accurate Series (Sad, but True!)
This cartoon is part of Painfully Accurate, a StrategyXF series built from real Strategy Execution challenges our members have actually lived through, laughed about, and found a way past.
Every scene started as something a leader or practitioner described, not a hypothetical, an actual moment somebody in this community said out loud and everyone else in the room recognized instantly. Sad but true, every one of them, and every one of them survivable.
If any of this feels a little too familiar, you're exactly who this community was built for. Join StrategyXF and help us turn these shared war stories into the practical, personalized strategies that finally put them behind us.
