🧠Five Priorities, Zero Consensus 🤝- Strategic Priority Alignment C-Suite

There's a very specific kind of joy that happens at the end of a strategy session. The handshake. The genuine smiles. The little walk out of the room where everyone's chatting like they just won something together. Beautiful scene. Somebody should frame it. And honestly, they earned it, they really did agree on the strategy. Cost discipline, growth, risk management, expansion, all named, all nodded to, real consensus.
What nobody thought to agree on was which one of those actually wins when it's time to make a trade-off.

Five executives can leave that same session with identical language and still walk out with five completely different rankings of what matters most. One's already thinking cost first. Another's thinking growth first. A third genuinely has no idea how to rank it at all. Nobody catches this in the room, because technically, everyone agreed. They just agreed on the what and quietly skipped the which one matters more.
That gap shows up later, and it's expensive when it does. Finance starts optimizing for cost while the business unit next door is optimizing for expansion, and both can point to the exact same strategy document to justify it.
That's Principle 3 of the 10 Key Principles of Strategy Execution, Translate and Communicate Strategic Direction, at its core. Getting to shared words is only half the battle. The other half is getting the C-Suite to explicitly agree on the relative priority behind those words, before translation and decomposition even begins, so that when a real trade-off shows up, there's already a shared answer for which priority wins. Skip that step, and the strategy wasn't really agreed to. Everyone signed off on the same document, they just never agreed on what it should actually tell them to do when two priorities pull in opposite directions.
The 10 Key Principles aren't something we came up with on our own. They're being defined in the open by the StrategyXF community, multi disciplinary leaders and practitioners from Strategy, Operations, Finance, HR, Architecture, Transformation, PMO, Delivery, and Change Management, coming together to name the real challenges holding organizations back from mastering Strategy Execution, and to share what's actually worked. This scene came directly from that conversation.

StrategyXF Painfully Accurate Series (Sad, but True!)
This cartoon is part of Painfully Accurate, a StrategyXF series built from real Strategy Execution challenges our members have actually lived through, laughed about, and found a way past.
Every scene started as something a leader or practitioner described, not a hypothetical, an actual moment somebody in this community said out loud and everyone else in the room recognized instantly. Sad but true, every one of them, and every one of them survivable.
If any of this feels a little too familiar, you're exactly who this community was built for. Join StrategyXF and help us turn these shared war stories into the practical, personalized strategies that finally put them behind us.
